Ladies Football

The idea of a ladies club first came about in 2007 when John Feeney raised the idea with Claire Feeney. A meeting, chaired by Claire Feeney and Lucy Kelleher, was subsequently held in the Community Centre. There was substantial interest so they decided to go ahead. Christine Manley was elected as Chairperson and Lucy Kelleher as Secretary. Indoor training then began with the aid of Brendan O’Gorman and later Ger Manley. With the help of Dripsey GAA club the ladies club was successfully established.

The ladies junior team first entered competition in 2008 and despite a disappointing league campaign they went on to win the County 12-a-side Championship defeating Banteer in the final.  With a strong panel including players from Dripsey, Inniscarra and Aghabullogue  the junior team has entered 15-a-side competition this year and is training hard for the upcoming Championship in July with trainers Tim McCarthy and Christy Naughton.

2009 has also seen the addition of an underage team to the ladies set up. Lynda O’Gorman has taken up the organisation and training of this team with the help of Lucy Kelleher and Eimear McCarthy. This team has a fantastic panel of 27 registered players and will compete in a league semi final in a few weeks.
